ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Samed Akçakmak, 27 years old. I am a full stack web developer and a designer who has been designing and developing web apps and websites actively for the last 7 years.

I am founder of the foneturk.com which is an educational web app developed for Ankara University Department of Linguistics, for people who want to learn features of units that form the phonemic inventory of Turkish and practice transcription of Turkish using International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

MOTIVATION

I have chosen this field as my career not only to earn money but also because I am carrying a great love for computer science in general and I love producing thoughtfully refined high-quality niche web products that help people.

Foneturk is an educational web app developed for Ankara University Department of Linguistics, for people who want to learn features of units that form the phonemic inventory of Turkish and practice transcription of Turkish using International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

1. It has 4 main modes to practice features of units that form the phonemic inventory of Turkish, namely vowel/consonant features and vowel/consonant allophones.

2. Phonetic transcription mode as the 5th mode to practice transcription of Turkish using International Phonetic Alphabet.

3. With its analytics system, a variety of learning data is presented like the number of completed practices, the time spent for practices, practice correctness and the perfection data to get the perfection diamond of each practiced phonemic unit.

4. With its challenge system, it has a multiplayer system in which users can challenge each other in practice modes and get diamonds by climbing the leaderboard.

I worked on Radio Information System project which is a web app used for handling the data of Turkey’s VSAT systems (a satellite technology used for the transmission of data between radio stations and satellites), used by TurkTelekom.

I also worked on the monitoring software of VSAT units and the organization of large amount of realtime data coming from VSAT systems using SNMP protocol with Node.js.

Unfortunately I left Olle due to transportation issues because I needed to take 4 long bus trips to travel to work and come back to home.

learnturk.com was a self-funded side initiative of mine. A helper web app for people who want to learn Turkish. After it had remained open for 7 months, I decided to shut it down to redesign the learning model.
